Leisure activities in Cádiz

In case you're not sure what to do after class or on the weekends, we have created a list of many of the activities that you can do here in Cádiz.

Free Wi-Fi

Some of the plazas in the center and in the new part of the city have free wireless internet, signaled by a blue and white pole. The plazas in the centre are La Catedral, Mina, and Palillero, while the plazas in the new part of town are Ingeniero la Cierva and Telegrafía.

Movie Cinema

In the plaza del Palillero, in the historical centre, there is a cinema, and in the new part of town there´s another cinema located in El Corte Inglés (Movie schedules).

Beaches

The city of Cádiz has 7.220 meters of wonderful beaches with white sand that are divided in the following manner: 450 meters of the Caleta beach (in the old city), 370 meters of the Santa María del Mar beach, 2.500 meters of Victoria beach and 3.900 meters of Cortadura beach (all 3 are in the new part of the city).

The "Costa de la Luz" (in the province of Cádiz) contains more than 200 kilometers of amazing beaches of fine, golden sand, among which you can find many virgin beaches of indescribable beauty, located among cliffs and sand dunes.

Buses and other touristic services

  • Buses: Cádiz Tour and Tour por Cádiz
  • Bicycle rental: Urban Bike Cádiz (near the Cathedral)
  • Guided tour by mp3 ("Cadiz Paso a Paso" guides are available at our language school)
  • Tour by Segway: Hip Segway Cádiz (Valverde, 4)

Shopping

The main shopping streets are Calle Columela, Plaza del Palillero, San Francisco, and Ancha. Some example of clothing stores are Zara, Mango, Lacoste, Springfield, Sfera, Desigual, Lefties, Bershka, Pull and Bear, Adolfo Dominguez, Pepe Jeans London, and Women´s Secret. In these streets you can also find bookstores, photo shops, perfumeries, shoe stores, etc. The Public Market (El Mercado Público or Mercado de  Abastos), in which you can buy fresh meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, etc. is in the historical part of the city. Next to it you can also buy freshly made churros. Finally, if you can´t find what you want in the old part of town, we have El Corte Inglés, a department store with everything, such as furniture, clothing, cinema, electronics, food, and more.

Restaurants

In Cádiz there are restuarants for everybody´s tastes. In the historical centre you can find restaurants and tapas bars with typical Andalusian food in a neighborhood called el barrio de la Viña (calle de la Palma is the main street), also in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios (where the City Hall is) and Plaza de Mina and the area around it. In Cádiz we have Mexican, Japanese, Italian, German, Chinese, Vegetarian, Argentinian, Morrocan food and more.

Discotheques

If you want to go dancing in the old part of town, you can go to La Punta, which is an entire street of discotheques/dance clubs near the Plaza de España and the port. There are also pubs in streets such as Manuel Rancés. In the new part of town, there´s a street near the Hotel Playa Victoria, called Muñoz Arenillas, which has many bars and discos of different music genres, such as Reggaeton or salsa, for example.

Flamenco

There are various places to see a flamenco show and they are: Taberna Flamenca La Cava, Taberna El Marqués de Cádiz (near the plaza of San Juan de Dios), Peña Flamenca Perla de Cádiz, Centro Municipal de arte flamenco ¨La Merced¨ (Plaza de la Merced), Peña flamenca Enrique el Mellizo, y Peña flamenca Juan Villar.

Plazas and Parks

In the historical centre we have the Genovés park, with its hundred year old drago tree and other various botanical species. The most notable plazas are Plaza de Mina, Plaza de España, Plaza de Candelaria, Plaza de San Antonio, Plaza de San Juan de Dios, Plaza de la Catedral, and Plaza de San Francisco. Also, the following streets along the sea stand out: la Alameda Apodaca and el Paseo de Carlos III.
